Meet Beau

Kevin loves how much his dog Beau has become a member of the family

Beau is a wonderful family dog. He’s everybody’s friend, and I’m always getting requests from my neighbours to see if he wants to join them and their dogs for a walk.

Beau loves being at home

He provides us with endless laughter, especially when he gets given a treat and starts jumping around like a little puppy. Every evening, after hislast walk, he likes to enjoy a tummy rub or two. Beau loves being at home and is very protective of our house, though he’s great at sharing the garden with the birds, squirrels and hedgehogs. Our dog is a treasured member of our family, and we wouldn’t be without him.

Meet Peanut

Peanut the Pomeranian suffered from health issues due to his tiny size, but that hasn’t stopped him from keeping Julii on her toes with his antics

Peanut is a Pomeranian who was imported in early 2019, and seized at Dover as he was suspected of being underage and was very poorly, weighing just 0.7kg.

He went to Dogs Trust and received veterinary care, but his importer decided not to claim him, so he was put up for adoption. We went to meet him and decided to adopt him. But two days before I was due to collect him, he collapsed and was found having a seizure in his kennel.

He likes to practice Parkour whenever he sees a chance

He then spent several weeks at vets across Kent where he was tested for everything and finally diagnosed with Toy Dog hypoglycaemia. We fostered him and eventually signed the adoption papers in April 2019.

Peanut is tiny. He weighs 2.6kg, has a massive coat and likes to practice Parkour whenever he sees a chance. He’s already had to go to the emergency vets following a fall from a windowsill and a coffee table (twice!).

He is cheeky and a proper handful to train. He flies at the TV if they dare to put an animal on it and he is very high maintenance. But he is also very loving, he likes to be read a story (he tends to join in with his own comments!) and he has a wicked sense of humour. I can’t imagine life without him.

Meet Holly

Resilient rescue collie cross Holly has brought owner Kathryn 15 years of joy.

We brought our rescue dog Holly, a collie cross, home on 17 December 2005 when she was about one year old. She was very jumpy and bouncy and her tail wagged in a circle. 14 years later she's a grand old lady and has to cope with an awful lot.

She's the love of my life

She has fatty lumps which make it uncomfortable to lie down, she has a sebaceous cyst on her neck which she lets us clean and bandage, under sufferance, every day. She is losing her hearing but has adapted quickly to hand gestures instead. She has arthritis, she has episodes of vestibular disease and recently we have discovered that she has heart disease too. So these days she isn't so jumpy and bouncy, but she's still so affectionate and loving, faithful, gentle, placid, laid back and beautiful.

She'll still rip the post up if she gets there first and can be stubborn and contrary. She doesn't like the rain, and she's happiest exploring the garden, eating her tea or her favourite game sausages, sleeping or having big cuddles. She loves being pampered at the groomers, which is a real treat for her that she thoroughly deserves. She's a real battler and as long as she's got her favourite things – and all her medication – she's happy. She's the love of my life.

Meet Daisy

From her garden patrols to her endless games of fetch, Daisy has always been a light in Fiona’s life

Daisy is a typical Jack Russell, or not so! She’s half human, or more. We have had her since a tiny pup with a squished nose resembling a guinea pig, only smaller. She has grown into the most enchanting, loving dog, who’s very much part of our family.

She loves tummy rubs, ‘special biscuits’ aka treats, and sleeping on our bed (she hardly moves but occasionally creeps up for a cuddle). She patrols our garden with aplomb, chasing pigeons and crows away and protecting our hedgehogs so gently. Rats? Well, she routes them out fearlessly and fast and brings her catch into the house with great pride.

She has grown into the most enchanting, loving dog

Daisy is an absolute darling. She is hyper intelligent and knows many words, including the obvious ‘walkies’, as well as ‘greenhouse’, ‘summerhouse’ and ‘orange ball’. The orange ball is a practice soft cricket ball that’s her absolute favourite and she fetches it endlessly, until I'm exhausted and she's still going!

Sadly, she's developed a heart murmur, so exercise is now a little restricted and she sleeps a lot. We hope to get her a Jack Russell puppy next spring. She is so friendly with other dogs, and I think it would be a real bonus in her life and might very slightly help our grieving when she passes. Daisy is simply the best!

Meet Maximus

Maximus has made his owner Louise so proud, by helping to care for her poorly sister and offering everyone never-ending affection.

Maximus is a 7-year-old German Shepherd, a gentle giant with a heart of gold.

We are so proud of him!

Over the lockdown period we have had to care for my sister, who is currently receiving chemotherapy for bowel cancer. I can honestly say that Maximus has been like a magnet to her. On chemotherapy days he waits for her to return, and then doesn’t leave her side once she’s home. He has amazed us all and we are so proud of him!

He is a delightful boy, and is obviously very sensitive to how people are feeling. We love him dearly.

Meet Fergal

After the pandemic left Jade feeling isolated and alone, Fergal was exactly what she needed to get back out and enjoy life

By no exaggeration, Fergal has changed my life. I desperately wanted a dog for a bit of companionship. After all the lockdowns and craziness of 2020, I had really lost my way. The days moulded into one and I had nothing to look forward to.

Then Fergal came along, and my life has never felt so full. He comes everywhere with me, like my little sidekick who gives me a confidence boost when I need it. His lust for life is contagious. He makes me laugh every day, and the best part is how much of a social life he has opened up for me.

I truly underestimated how wonderful having a dog would be

I'd never have the confidence to strike up a conversation with just anyone, but with Fergal it's easy. He's always (obviously) the ice breaker. I've met so many wonderful people at his training group, out hiking or whenever he does his wiggly bum dance in front of someone to get attention. He is the most dramatic dog you'll ever wish to meet in the best way possible.

Walks are never quiet these days. He is well known in my area. Even our local lollipop lady carries a special treat for him every morning. He bumps noses with the local horses every day, can clear an entire field of sheep poo in less than 10 minutes, and if he hears the ice cream van jingle, he won’t move from the front door until you take him to get his 99 cone.

I truly underestimated how wonderful having a dog would be. I adore him. He is my best friend.
